Myanmar Ambassador to Nepal U Lwin Oo and Myanmar Community in Nepal celebrated Maha Thingyan festival at the Royal Café & party Venue in Kathmandu on 22nd April 2017, taking part in the traditional water festival that ushers in the New Year of Myanmar.

Thingyan is a Sanskrit word meaning “change”, and perhaps it is inevitable that the annual event to welcome the New Year has changed over the years.

At this event, Ambassador U Lwin Oo, Bhum Udas, Ambassador-Designate of Nepal to Myanmar, Shankar Ghimire, President of Nepal-Myanmar Friendship Council, Tulsi Ram Gyawali, Secretary Genreral of the Friendship Council, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Executive Member of Nepal-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry cut the ribbon to open the Thingyan Pandal.

“Ambassador Lwin Oo delivered a New Year welcoming speech at the opening ceremony. Then various dance troupes from Myanmar Community in Nepal entertained the audiences with several cultural performances which included singing and dancing and were also fed with traditional Burmese cuisine. Ambassador and his wife presented awards to entertainment troupes, following their performances,” said a press release issued by Embassy of Myanmar, Kathmandu.  

Also in attendance were the Members of the Friendship Council and Chamber of Commerce and Industry, invitees and other officials. Nearly 300 Myanmar Community members showed up at this event.
