Conducive Investment Environment

British Ambassador to Nepal Andrew James Sparkes has noted that Nepal developed a conducive environment for investment as the conflict management and constitution writing processes made a progress. He said his embassy would invited the British investors to come to invest in Nepal.

Meeting with the office bearers of Nepal Chamber of Commerce, ambassador Sparkes said he will take all necessary steps to increase economic and trade relations between the two countries. During the meeting, president of Nepal Chamber of Commerce Rajesh Kazi Shrestha said hydropower, agriculture, infrastructure development, tourism and handicraft sectors are attractive sectors for foreign investment. Shrestha said that British investors can benefit from these sectors.

Shrestha also stressed the need to increase bilateral interactions between the business communities of the two countries.  Second vice president of NCC Rajendra Malla requested the British Ambassador to make the visa processes easier for Nepalese exporters to visit United Kingdom.

Senior vice president of NCC Lokmanya Golchha, first vice president Gyanendra Ratna Tuladhar, secretaries Nil Kanth Chaulagain, Santosh Kumar Pandey and Parshu Ram Dahal, and joint treasurer Raja Ratna Tuladhar, among others, were present.

A delegation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) led by its newly elected president Rajesh Kaji Shrestha separately met Minister for Industry Karna Bahadur Thapa, Minister for Commerce and Supplies Sunil Bahadur Thapa, and Chief Secretary Lila Mani Poudel in their respective offices recently.

The delegation requested Industry Minister Thapa to take the necessary initiatives for early endorsement of pending bills related to the industrial sector from the parliament. Similarly, the delegation requested Commerce Minister Sunil Bahadur Thapa to make necessary amendments to the Trade Policy of 2008.

During the meeting with Chief Secretary Lila Mani Poudel, Shrestha said: “It will be difficult for Nepal to gain the ´developing country´ status by 2022 with the existing capacity and working style of the government and private sector.” Addressing the delegation, Chief Secretary Poudel said that he would play a coordinating role between government and the private sector for economic development of the country.

Immediate Past President Suresh Kumar Basnet, Second Vice President Rajendra Malla, General Secretary Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal, Treasurer Rajendra Aryal; secretaries Nil Kanth Chaulagain, Devendra Bhakta Shrestha, Santosh Kumar Pandey and Parshu Ram Dahal, and Joint Treasurer Raja Ratna Tuladhar were in the delegation, according to the statement.
