Following the floods in Nepal there has been an urgent need to support the rural population in central and western Nepal. DanChurchAidis with financial support of DKK 600,000 from the Danish Foreign Ministry providing help to the people in need. 886 marginalized families will be directly benefitted from this support and local DanChurchAid partners will distribute the donation.

17 districts of the mid and far western region of Nepal have been suffering from landslide and flooding as a consequence of continuous rain. Thousands of families has been affected by these floods and has been evacuated from their homes.

According to a press release issued by Embassy of Denmark, many of the areas in which DanChurchAid projects are located have been affected, and their partners FAYA and LWF Nepal are therefore working on supporting these. A distribution process starting from mid-September will allocate non-food items such as blankets, mosquito nets, clothes, cooking utensils, buckets. Furthermore, hygiene kits including towels, soap, toothpaste, brushes, sanitary napkins and women’s undergarments will be provided. 886 marginalized families will be directly benefitted from this support and it will be distributed in three districts Surkhet, Bardiya and Kailali. FAYA is distributing in Kailali while LWF is distributing to Bardiya and Surkhet.

In addition FAYA has via their ‘Disaster Risk Reduction Program’ supported trainings to volunteers in first aid, disaster risk reduction practices, and early warning systems for disasters such as floods.

The long term aid from DanChurchAid includes support for house construction, livelihood restoration, and WASH and disaster risk reduction measures.
