Israeli doctors bring their expertise to Patan Hospital

"We had a unique experience in PatanHosptial. The staffs at the hospital are doing an amazing job" said Dr. Noah Leil after wrapping up her visit to Patan Hospital on 18 November 2014.  During her three month stay in Nepal with another Israeli doctor, Dr. YairLeil, they shared their knowledge on endocrinology and cardiology with the local doctors and medical staff there.

The doctors worked very closely with Nepali physicians from internal medicine, intensive care unit and emergency medicine and an American doctor who has been practicing and volunteering at Patan Hospital for a long time.  Discussions were also conducted regarding patients who needed tests and in many cases the results influenced their further medical care.  Dr. Yair also attended rounds with Physicians in the internal medicine ward and further consulted with patients with endocrine problems.

Visiting the Patan Hosptial to observe voluntary works conducted there by the Israeli doctors, Yaron Mayer, Ambassador of Israel to Nepal said, "I am very much impressed by the services and facilities provided by the Patan Hospital.  Israel will try to expand the ongoing collaborations between Nepal and Israel in the medical field".

During their stay at the Patan Hosptial, Dr. Noah and Dr. Yair also provided lectures on their expertise and the importance of the use of echocardiography to the physicians and medical students there.

Dr. Noah is a cardiologist specializing in echocardiography and the head of the echocardiography unit and Dr. Yair is an endocrinologist and the head of the endocrine unit at Soroka medical Center in Beer-Sheva.

Their visit is a part of a long term medical cooperation between Nepal and Israel.

Earlier this month, an Israeli doctor, Dr. Yuval Lavy, shared his knowledge on urogynecology with the doctors from Dhulikhel Hospital, Kathmandu University Hospital and performed urogynecological and laparoscopic operation on more than 15 women from marginalized community from Dhulikhel and Panauti area.
