Almost a week after the retirement of IGP Upendra Kanta Aryal, it seems a long way to go before Nepal Police finds its chief any time soon. Following the interim order of Supreme Court, newly appointed IGP Jaya Bahadur Chand’s position is in controversy.

Earlier, there is row over the seniority and other criteria, government appointed Chand by passing senior DIG Nawaraj Silwal, single bench of Supreme Court headed by chief justice Sushila Karka issued an interim order not preventing Chand to head the police.

For almost month, even the cabinet was divided to choose DIG Silwal and DIG Chand. Although DIG Silwal is senior compared to other three, the government chose Chand reportedly from the backing of former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba who later declined the report.

As the case is still in hearing in the court, it will take a week to see who will led 75,000 strong force. Following the interim order, cabinet named AIG Dinesh Chandra Pokhrel named officiating IGP.
