United Nations Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos is in three day visit to Nepal. She will be in Nepal between 30 April and 2 May 2015. During the visit, she herself saw the extent of the devastation and speak to those affected. She also met with Government officials and humanitarian and international partners.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake which struck the Central and Western Regions of Nepal, including the Kathmandu Valley, on 25 April caused massive damage and loss of lives through 39 districts and affected millions people.

According to United Nations Information Center (UNIC), responding to life-saving assistance for the people affected requires international support and a Flash Appeal seeking US$ 415 was prepared to this effect.

With the impending monsoons providing shelter for those who lost their homes will be a key challenge.  The appeals aims to rally vital international financial support to meet their basic humanitarian needs and to support people for food, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, logistics, emergency telecommunications, education, child protection/gender-based violence and early recovery.
