During his visit to Bara District on 2 July, Ambassador of India to Nepal, Jayant Prasad laid the foundation stone for the construction of a bridge over Bangari River at Bhaluhi-Bharwalia VDC (Chiljhapati Ghat) under Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Programme. The function was attended by the local political leaders, senior administrative officials, general public and media.

According to a press release issued by the Indian Embassy, the proposed 40-meter bridge, being constructed with Indian assistance of NRs 31.79 million, would serve as a link to the road connecting the Nepal-India Border. The construction of bridge along with embankment on both sides of the bridge will facilitate the easy movement of goods and services. It is expected that over 75,000 people of 8 VDCs are going to benefit from this bridge by providing all year connectivity with the district.

In addition to this project, two school buildings in Bara District have been built with Indian assistance of NRs. 29.30 million. India has also provided nine ambulances and three school buses in the district.

India is also constructing two roads totaling 65.9 km i.e. MRM (Tamagarhi) – Simraungarh and MRM (Manmat) – Kalaiya-Matiyarwa Road in Bara District under Phase-I of the ongoing Terai Roads Project in Nepal. The Project envisages the construction of 19 links/postal roads covering a total length of 605 km in the Terai Districts with Indian financial assistance totaling approximately NRs. 11 billion.

In his address, Ambassador of India underlined the importance of the Nepal–India Economic Cooperation Programme as a cornerstone of the development partnership between the two countries. He expressed the hope that the various projects being implemented under the programme will help the people of Nepal in their strides towards peace and prosperity.
