Judge of Appellate Court Nepalgunj, Yamuna Bhattarai met with American Ambassador Peter W. Bodde, today.  The U.S. Department of Justice is sponsoring Judge Bhattarai’s attendance at the 36th Annual Conference of the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ) to be held in San Diego, California, October 15-19.  The NAWJ conference presents a unique opportunity for women judges from different countries to attend presentations, exhibitions and professional trainings with their colleagues and to share best practices of justice systems from around the world. 

According to a press release issued by US Embassy, the theme for this year’s conference is “Protecting and Advancing Meaningful Access to Justice.”  The conference will offer sessions on access to justice through diverse leadership, access to justice for families of violence survivors and challenges to judicial independence and ethics of judges.  Judge Bhattarai will benefit from sharing her experiences and ideas with women judges from all other attending countries.  This exposure will offer Judge Bhattarai a unique opportunity to bring back new ideas for imparting justice in Nepal.
