Nepal India seventh meeting of the Joint Committee on Kosi and Gandak Projects held

Nepal India the seventh meeting of the Joint Committee on Kosi and Gandak Projects (JCKGP) was held at Kathmandu, on 11-12 November, 2014. The Indian side was led by Dipak Kumar Singh, Secretary, Water Resources Department, Government of Bihar, India. The Nepalese side was led by Madhav Belbase, Director General, Department of Irrigation (DoI), Ministry of Irrigation, Government of Nepal.

According to a press release issued by Indian Embassy, many issues of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting.  Both sides also deliberated on the issues of erosion of embankment areas upstream as well as downstream of the Kosi Barrage and the flooding and inundation of the areas around the Gandak Project Area. It was agreed to form a sub-committee to make recommendations on the outstanding issues with respect to the Gandak Project.

The Committee emphasized on the need to meet more regularly.  It was decided to hold the next meeting in April/May 2015.The meeting was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.
