Deepak Obhrai, Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and for International Human Rights, is visiting Kathmandu from January 13 – 18, 2015.
During his visit, Obhrai will make a courtesy call on President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala to notably mark the 50th anniversary of Canada-Nepal diplomatic relations. On this occasion, he is expected to announce a Canadian project in support of Nepal’s democratic transition, focus on expanding bilateral trade relations, encourage democratic developments, and discuss other issues of mutual interest.
Parliamentary Secretary Obhrai is also planning meetings with Nepal’s Minister of Energy, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. Other meetings are anticipated to take place with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), members of the Canada-Nepal Business Executive Committee (CNBEC). These interactions will focus on bilateral trade opportunities across priority trade sectors including agriculture, aerospace, infrastructure, telecom, and power.
Accordig to a press release issued by Smriti Saxena Advocacy Communications Officer, High Commisison of Canda in India, another highlight of the visit is the golden jubilee celebration of Nepal-Canada Friendship and Cultural Association, where the
Deepak Obhrai will be the guest of honour, along with the Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, as the chief guest. Obhrai is also expected to meet with representatives of international financial institutions, as well as political analysts and members of the civil society.
