Canada announces concrete support to Nepal’s democratic transition

On behalf of the Government of Canada, Deepak Obhrai, Parliamentary secretary, announced Canadian support to a project in Nepal by the Forum of Federations titled “Consolidating Democratic Transition in Nepal”.

According to a press rlease issued by Candian High Commissioner, the project is expected to build on the Forum’s experience with federalism and decentralization to provide technical support to elected representatives of the 2nd Constituent Assembly and an outreach program for local civil society, community leaders and interested citizens.

The primary purpose of Parliamentary Secretary Obhrai’s visit to Nepal is to mark the 50th anniversary of Canada-Nepal diplomatic relations. The visit is also an opportunity to focus on expanding bilateral commercial relations, encourage democratic developments, and discuss issues of mutual interest with Nepalese interlocutors.
