The last convoy of trucks from Bangladesh carrying the final consignment of 10,000 MT of rice donated by the Government of Bangladesh as a part of its package of humanitarian assistance for the victims of the devastating earthquake of 25 April 2015 has arrived in Kakarvitta this morning.  The rice started arriving from Bangladesh on 06 May 2015 and a total of 521 trucks from Bangladesh have been used for transportation of the rice from Banglabandha in Bangladesh to Nepal.  The consignment was handed over to Mr. Kamal B. Thapa, Assistant CDO of Jhapa District and stored in warehouses of Food Corporation of Nepal in Birtamod and Chandrakuri for onward distribution in Nepal.  It may be meeting that the Cabinet Meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday, 04 May 2015 decided to send 10,000 MT of rice and adequate drinking water to Nepal as humanitarian assistance for earthquake victims.

According to a press release of Bangladesh Embassy, in addition to the rice, Government and other agencies in Bangladesh have sent various items as humanitarian assistance to Nepal.  So far, Bangladesh has sent 850 tents, 254 pieces of tarpaulin, 20 rolls of polythene, 66 pieces of plastic mats, 6500 liters of bottled drinking water, 67600 kgs. of medicines and medical equipment, 90 kgs. of cottons, 45 kgs. of bandages, 10 bottles of Savlon, 1750 liters of bleaching powder, 77 cartons of readymade garments, 2300 pieces of blankets and various kind of biscuits and other dry foods.  These relief materials have been sent to Kathmandu by special Bangladesh Air Force Flight on 26 April, 01 May, 03 May, 07 May and 09 May 2015.

A 30-member medical team of the Bangladesh Army also arrived on 26 April and after providing treatment to more than 3000 victims of earthquake for 13 days returned to Bangladesh on 09 May 2015.  The Bangladesh Army Medical Team worked in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur.

In addition to that, the Embassy of Bangladesh has also been working with several private organizations and has distributed relief materials in several areas in Lalitpur and Dhulikhel as well as several villages in Sindhupalchowk, Nuwakot and Gorkha.  The children of the Embassy officials have formed volunteer groups and have been distributing relief goods to earthquake victims staying in camps.

A number of Non-Government Organizations from Bangladesh have arrived in Nepal and have been providing humanitarian assistance to victims of the earthquake in several localities outside the Kathmandu Valley.  Numerous organizations, institutions and private individuals have sent relief materials in a spontaneous outpouring of sympathy for the friendly people of Nepal.  The Bangladesh Rural Advancement Council (BRAC), the largest NGO in Bangladesh dispatched a medical team to work in the affected districts and provide treatment to the people there.  BRAC has also donated 5000 blankets for the victims of earthquake.  Other institutions such as Bangladesh Banker's Association have donated 40000 blankets for the victims of earthquake in Nepal.  These blankets have been donated through the Embassy of Nepal in Bangladesh.  The Pran Group has donated 1000 cartons of biscuits and 1000 cartons of Mango and Lichee drinks for Nepal.  All these donations have been received by the Customs officials in Kakarvitta for onward dispatch to the authorities.

Other organizations who have donated for the earthquake affected people of Nepal are the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB), Water Aid Bangladesh (WAB), Rupantor Bangladesh, Nazrul Parishad, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the members of the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh.  In a spontaneous gesture of support, the officers and members of the staff of Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo donated Y 115000 to the Embassy of Nepal in Tokyo.  Many other organizations and individuals have also donated relief materials to the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka.

In addition to these efforts, the Pran Group is also organizing a "Concert for Nepal" which will be held in Dhaka on 21 May in effort to raise funds for the victims of earthquake in Nepal.  The Concert is being held with the support of Bangladesh Society, Nepal and it is expected that renowned band groups of Bangladesh namely Souls, Feedback, LRB, Ark, Shunno, Black and other individual performers will participate in the concert.  Earlier, 0n 03 May, another "Concert for Nepal" was also organized in Dhaka where noted bands such as Miles performed.
