UN Resident Coordinator on behalf of the International Community in Nepal welcomed the agreement

The international community welcomes the spirit of unity that the Nepali political leaders have displayed in reaching an agreement on a new constitution. This is a remarkable achievement, especially since it was accomplished during a difficult period following the major earthquakes of April and May.

The agreement is a significant step forward in the peace process and towards the completion of the foundational document that will guide the country’s future development. The international community encourages Nepal’s political forces to redouble efforts to complete the constitution drafting process in the spirit of compromise and the broad aspirations of the Nepali people. 

The international community reaffirms its support to the peace process and reconstruction in Nepal.
