Sept. 27, 2016, 5:45 p.m.

Myanmar Ambassador to Nepal U Lwin Oo, members of Nepal-Myanmar Friendship Council and well-known artists, Composer U Win Min Htwe and Singer She, from Myanmar jointly inaugurated the newly constructed “Nepal Myanmar Metta 2015” Community Building, Dhada Gaun village in Bhaktapur District on 23rd September 2016.

According to a press release issued by Embassy of Myanmar, the Building was built with the donations and contributions of Myanmar peoples and benefactors from Nepal-Myanmar Friendship Council-NMFC and will serve as a school for the local children and even as a shelter if disaster strikes again. The building is worth Hundred million Kyats (Myanmar currency) equivalent to eighty thousands US Dollars.

The story of the donation was begun with the worst natural disaster struck Nepal on 25th of April 2015. Almost immediately after the first earthquake struck, NMFC had initiated immediate the relief efforts. A well-known composer and a member of NMFC, Win Min Htwe and colleagues appealed to those in their personal network – many of them musicians – to donate to the Nepal earthquakes. Win Min Htwe and his colleagues flew to Kathmandu in May 2015 and during their visit to Nagarkot, they thought-out ways not only to meet villagers’ immediate needs, but also to provide longer-term support. With these things on mind, they decided to build a school in Dhada Gaun village for the local populace.

In the past year, the Government of Myanmar provided foods, medicines and other assistance in two consignments by the Myanmar Air Force’s cargo plane as a humanitarian assistance for the victims of earthquake of April 2015 in Nepal. Myanmar citizens had also donated more than US$ Hundred Thousand to assist relief efforts in Nepal, and about one thousand families have benefited as a result.
