India provides Assistance to School Building in Gurkha

India extends assistance of NRs 43.3 million for construction of three storied building for Himalaya Secondary School in Gorkha District.

Narayan Acharya, Local Development Officer, Gorkha District and Ishwari Prasad Dhakal, Principal, Shree Himalaya  and Secondary School Gyanveer Singh, Second Secretary in the Embassy of India signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) for construction of the school with the total financial assistance of NRs 43.3 million by the Govt. of India under its Small Development Program Scheme as part of India–Nepal Economic Cooperation Program.

Established in 1960 as a primary school, the school was upgraded to the level of Secondary school in 2000 and soon it will be upgraded to Higher Secondary school. At present there are 315 students studying in the school. The school building was in a dilapidated condition and after the earthquake it has been destroyed. The objective of the project is to provide much needed classroom space which would create conducive environment for learning and contribute to the development of education sector in the district.

According to the MoU, the District Development Committee would prepare a work schedule, invite tenders for the construction of the project in 15 months and get the project completed in time. The School Management Committee, District Development Committee and Education Officer of Gorkha District would monitor the project and regularly submit the progress report to the Indian Embassy which shall release the funds accordingly.

“Three other projects have been completed and four other projects in Gorkha District are under implementation with the Government of India’s financial assistance worth NRs 140 million. Additionally, the Government of India has, in the past, provided 06 ambulances, recognizing the need of the people of the district,” said a press release issued by Indian Embassy.
