Goût de France is an international event which was started in 2015 at the initiative of world renowned French chef, Mr Alain Ducasse and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development.  It unites chefs from all over the world on the same evening (March 21) with one common objective: celebrate French gastronomy with the local products and talent.

“The quality of French cuisine relies in  its capacity for innovation, and in its values: sharing, enjoying, and respecting the principles of high-quality, environmentally responsible cuisine. It is CONTEMPORARY.  Participating chefs are encouraged to blend their own culinary culture to that of France, rather than discounting it.  French cuisine is EXCELLENCE — Healthy, Innovative, and Responsible: In addition to representing the heartiness associated with the pleasures of eating, food also becomes the symbol of France’s positive values,” said French Ambassador to Nepal,Yves Carmona in a press conference organized by French Embassy at at the Residence of France.

In its initial year (2015), more than 1300 restaurants participated where as the number increased to over 1715 in the year 2016.  For this third edition, more than 2,000 restaurants worldwide are participating in this event and the French Ambassador in Nepal will also host his own Goût de France dinner at the Residence of France.  This year the focus will be on culinary training schools and hotel management schools.  Thus, schools and apprentices worldwide will participate in the event to create “French-style” dinners on the evening of 21 March.

Each menu will feature dishes that are low in fat, sugar and salt, thereby promoting the art of eating well and respect for the environment. Each restaurant will have the freedom to set the price of its menu and will commit to paying 5% of sales to a local NGO working in social sector.

This year, following restaurants and schools will participate in this prestigious event from Nepal (up from two last year):

1-      Chimney Fine Dining Restaurant, Hotel Yak and Yeti

2-      Le Sherpa Restaurant, Maharajgunj

3-      Garden Terrace Restaurant, Hotel Soaltee
