Although more than half of monsoon period has already passed, Nepal receives less than half of the rainfall till July 25. According to the meteorologist, the rainfall pattern of last two months indicated that rainfall in this monsoon will be below the average.
According to a report published in Nagarik Daily, Kathmandu receives 173.90 mm of rainfall in July with monthly average 363.40 mm. Biratnagar receives 155.50 mm in July. Normally Biratnagar receives 530.8 MMM in the month of July.
Similarly, normal rainfall of July in Okhaldhunga, Taplejung, Simara, Nepalgunj, Kathmandu and Bhairawa used to be 530.8, 472,416.3, 580.2,430,363 and 545.6 mm respectively. However, they received the rain fall155.50,206.30, 221.90, 245.20, 183, 173.90 and 303.70 mm respectively by July 25.
Although monsoon entered this year on June 12, it was active a week later. Normally, the monsoon starts from June to September. Senior meteorologist and Professor of Kathmandu University Maniratna Shakya said this year rainfall is below average.
