Save the Uppper Karnali National Campaign and Watershed Concerned Group have demanded to cancel Upper Karnali Hydropower Agreement signed with Indian Multi-national GMR terming it as anti-national.
Handing over a memorandum to Minister of Energy Mahendra Bahadur Shahi on Thursday the president of Save The Upper Karnali National Campaign Bharat Bahadur Shahai reminded minister Shahi that all the previous prime ministers and ministers after the of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala repeatedly assured them to revise Upper Kanrali Agreement in accordance with National interest. He blamed, however, that they continue to protect anti-national agreement.
In a program, Nepal Communist Party Maoist (Revolutionary) leader Raj Bahadur Kunwar said there are many policy mistakes in Upper Karnali Agreement. He argued that there need to correct policy level anti-national provisions of the treaty rather than talking the issue of investment. Experts on hydropower Ratan Bhandari said Upper Karnali Agreement is an anti-national agreement. He argued that the project should be constructed with national technology and national capital by terminating the treaty.
