Prime Minister Deuba said that the construction of the Kosi high dam and diversion in Sunkosi River was top priority of the government at the moment. He announced to explore long-term solution of flood problems in the region. Floods this year killed more than 150 people in Madhes and displaced millions.
"There is a need for a permanent solution to the flood problem as it causes huge losses in the districts of Madhes. The government is serious about it," said Deuba addressing the elections rally in Rajbiraj, district headquarter of Saptari. He said that his government was in constant touch with India to address the problem.
Nepali Congress (NC) will take the lead in amending the constitution if voted to power in the upcoming elections. Deuba told voters that the government was preparing to put the amendment bill to vote in parliament after the local elections. The parliament had rejected the bill in August.
