Nepali Congress has decided to field Laxmi Rai as the candidate for the post of President.

According to My Republica, Nepali Congress central working committee meeting held at party office, Sanepa declared Rai as the candidate of President early morning today.

In turn, Rai had to catch the first flight from Bhojpur to Kathmandu to file her candidacy.

Nepali Congress is dissatisfied with Prez Bhandari after she withheld the National Assembly member nomination forwarded by Sher Bahadur Deuba led government. In addition, the Prez also overturned Deuba’s National Assembly candidate recommendations. 

In 2013, Rai was a member of Constitutional Assembly under proportional representation from Nepali Congress.
