Nepal government has requested United Nations not to send United Nations Under-Secretary-General Jeffrey Feltman to Nepal. According to Annapurna Post Daily, Ministry of Foreign Affairs objected the visit saying that it was arranged without coordination with Ministry and Nepalese Permanent Mission in New York.

According to Ministry Sources, the visit was unilaterally arranged by UN. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara took a decision at a ministry level sending request to it is not appropriate time to visit UN Under Secretary General to Nepal.

According to Annapurna Post, Ministry of Foreign Affairs has conveyed this decision to UN Office in Kathmandu.  UN Under Secretary General Feltman is supposed to arrive on July 17 for three days visit.

“As Nepal is preparing to hold third round of local elections in September and Provincial and National level by January 2017, such visit will be relevant only after the completion of elections,” foreign minister Mahara reportedly informed UN.

This incident is seen as a chilling relation between UN and Nepal government.  Earlier, Nepal Government declined to provide elections observer status to UN officials in Nepal.
