India Records 47,092 New Covid-19 Cases, Highest In Two Months

The Covid-19 death toll has climbed to 4,39,529 with 509 more fatalities recorded in the country in the last 24 hours.

Covid-19 cases in India witnessed a rise on Thursday, with the country registering 47,092 new infections in the last 24 hours, according to Union Health Ministry data. This brings the total caseload to 3,28,57,937.

The last time cases were higher than this was 63 days ago, on July 1, when India reported 48,786 cases. On Wednesday, 41,965 Covid-19 cases were recorded.

Kerala topped the chart with 32,803 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 4,456 cases, Mizoram with 1,992 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,509 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 1,186 cases.

These five states reported 89.07 per cent of the new cases. Kerala is alone responsible for 69.66 per cent of the new cases.

Maximum deaths were reported in Maharashtra (183), followed by Kerala (173).

India's recovery rate now stands at 97.48 per cent, with 35,181 patients having recovered in the last 24 hours. This brings the total recoveries to 3,20,28,825 across the country.

India's active caseload stands at 3,89,583. In the last 24 hours, active cases increased by 11,402.

India has administered 81,09,244 Covid-19 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of doses administered to 66,30,37,334.

A total of 16,84,441 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, more than half of India's adult population has received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and 16 per cent have got both, the Union government said on Thursday as the cumulative number of doses administered in the country crossed 67 crore.

In Sikkim, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Himachal Pradesh all the adult population have got at least one dose of vaccine, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said at a press conference.

About ramping up of daily vaccinations, he said 18.38 crore doses were given in August during which 59.29 lakh doses were administered daily. The average daily vaccination in the last seven days of August has been 80.27 lakh.
