Whenever there are natural disasters and calamities, INGOs working in Nepal have immediately joined in the relief operations along with the government agencies at the community level.

As Nepal’s 45 districts are affected by floods and disasters, 20 members of Association of International NGOs in Nepal have started their contribution at the field level through various interventions for disaster relief and support.

INGOs have distributed materials like blanket, hygiene kits, baby packs, mosquito nets, tents, sleeping mattress, cloths including plan cloth, saris and suiting cloth. They also supplied food and other materials through the local partners and with the guidelines of district level disaster relief funds.

Along with supporting community level preparedness and early warning program, INGOs have made post disaster contributions at the community level, which is visible in many parts of Nepal.

Along with its members, AIN also provided support to the victims of recent flood and landslides. A delegation of AIN led by its chair Deepak Raj Sapkota handed over Rs. 500000 to prime minister Sushil Koirala for Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund.

“AIN, the Association of International INGOs in Nepal, expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and victims of the recent flooding and landslides. At this hour of grief, we would like to inform that we have been extending our continuous relief support through our partner organizations at local level,” said AIN’s press release.

“This is in addition to the direct contributions of  worth of more than  Rs. 12,79,13,332.00 (Twelve crore seventy nine lakh thirteen thousand three hundred thirty two rupees) made by Member INGOs in relief packages, food items, clothes, nonfood relief items, water, sanitation and hygiene materials, school kits, medicines etc. in the affected districts through implementing partners. We are pleased to notify that our humanitarian support has increased as per needs.” Said AIN.

To minimize duplication of support, such relief has been distributed in close coordination with the District Disaster Relief Committees. Apart from this emergency humanitarian relief support, AIN members have been implementing regular projects that have proven to be beneficial to local communities who are prone to such disasters.

“We would like to inform that AIN members are always committed to support and humbly call upon all the stakeholders to be involved in supporting the victims for recovery.  We would like to convey our gratitude and appreciation to all generous donors and the local level staff and volunteer friends who have been involved in providing humanitarian support to the victims in the disaster areas,” said the AIN press release.

AIN members' contributions to Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund include  AIN Membership fund Rs. 125,000, Britain Nepal Medical Trust Rs. 10,000, Karuna Foundation Rs. 30,000 Kidasha  Rs. 20,000, Micronutrient Initiative Rs. 5,000, Netherlands Leprosy Relief Rs.15,000, Norlha, Helping People in Himalayas Rs. 159,000, Red Panda Rs. 10,000, Restless Development Rs.6,000, SOIR, Swedish Organization for Individual Relief Rs. 20,000 and VSO Rs. 100,000.

Similalry, AWO International provided support of Rs.1122930 (Euro 9000) in Bardia and Shapla Neer provided  Rs.1508097.

 Other INGOs include Mercy Corps Rs.125, 000.00, Mission East Rs. 1,870,000.00, Oxfam Rs. 21,120,000.00, Plan Nepal Rs. 8,769,535.00, Save The Children Rs. 27,225,500.00, UMN Rs. 2,022,705.00, VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) Rs. 400,000.00, WaterAid Nepal Rs. 3,760,410.00, World Vision Rs. 2,600,000.00, and WWF Rs. 108,222.00. The total amount of direct contribution of 21 INGOs includes more than Rs. 127,913,332.00 rupees by September 4.
