Defense Minister Bhimsen Das Pradhan hailed Nepal Army’s historical role and its contribution in UN Peacekeeping operation expressing his commitment to further strengthening Nepal Army and fulfill its requirements.

In a briefing program organized by Nepal Army to newly appointed defense minister Pradhan, defense minister Pradhan said that Nepal Army has shown its professionalism in international peace keeping despite lack of necessary resources.  “Nepal Army has established itself as a trust worthy institution of people accepting political changes of different periods of Nepal’s history and fulfilling its responsibility under the legitimate political leadership,” said Pradhan.

 He said that Nepal Army’s Institutional arrangements need to revise under the guidelines of National Security Policy and Federal Structure under Comprehensive Strategic Review.

 Defense Minister Pradhan also highlighted Nepal Army’s role in disaster management including rescue, relief and rehabilitation works and stressed the need  to strengthen in this area as well.

 Chief of Army Staff General Rajendra Chhetri highlighted the role played by Nepal Army in international peacekeeping. COAS General Chhetri said that Nepal Army has established itself as a most reliable and credible troop country because of its contribution.

 During the briefing, defense minister Pradhan was briefed about national and international security environment and challenges, Nepal’s Army Structures, Welfare Programs, Operations and other.

 During the program Lieutenant General Baldev Raj Mahat expressed gratitude to defense minister for taking part in the briefing. During the briefing, defense secretary Shreedhar Sapkota and other high level army Generals also presented.
