In an election contested in neck to neck, Bhaban Bhatta defeated his nearest rival Jamuna Gurng and elected the new president of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).
He defeated his rival Jamuna Gurung. Bhatta received 1197 votes and Gurung received 584 votes. Giving brief remarks after victory, Bhatta said new era of NRNA would begin in his tenure and the unfulfilled agendas of the Association would also be materialized.
Similarly, Kumar Pant and Kul Acharya have been elected the Vice-Presidents. Among other elected are Sapila Rajbhandari (woman vice-president), Dr Badri KC (general secretary), DB Chhetri and Janaki Gurung (secretary), Hikmat Bahadur Thapa (treasurer) and Somnath Sapkota (co-treasurer).
According to a report published in My Republica, total 1,854 delegates cast their votes in the election held Monday night at Hyatt hotel in Kathmandu.
NRNA was established 14 years ago and now has spread in 77 countries. NRNA hold is convention in Nepal in every two years.
Bhatta is also the publisher of TBI Group in Nepal.
